Critique 2 + Feedback
After looking at some surreal self portrait photography works, I came up with an idea of changing my concept entirely with only a week left until submission.
With Edward Honoker as the main inspiration for this, I thought I could recreate a self-portrait that is some what close to his ideas. With my idea, objective and concept, I was planning to speak out through photography instead of a self-interview video.
Ideas:
Main Idea: ESCAPE
A self portrait where I act as if I'm tearing parts of my body part out to show that I want to escape from the darkness that is inside me.
A series of self-portrait that shows Isolation.
Concept:
A series of self portrait photographs printed in Black and White to give out a stronger feel.
Objectives:
With a different medium of still photos instead of documentary videos, I thought that rather than showing a some what “failed doco”, why not speak through stills this time as I failed to do that last year.

What I’d like to communicate through the photos of how “normal” someone might look whilst going through depression OR a multiple exposure of two simultaneous pictures.
How will I communicate this to the audience is with a combination of two different layers together, it shows what I put up outside and hide inside.

After presenting my new idea, I got a whole lot of negative feedback in where I should just continue on with my self-interview where I talk about depression. I show a piece of it in class and everyone said it was stronger and more meaningful because when it comes to a sensitive topic like depression, we rarely see people (themselves) talk about it and expose it towards the public.
I had a lot to think about and eventually took the advice and went on with it.
